The $57 million-revenue CompTIA has acquired the much smaller Association of Information Technology Professionals and launched a new organization for IT professionals.
AITP was a $534,000-revenue group based in Chicago. CompTIA announced Monday it had absorbed AITP and would launch a new association this spring to represent the same sector.
"There's a self-evident need for us to establish an IT pro association," CompTIA CEO Todd Thibodeaux said. The IT services sector already is unable to fill 15 percent of vacant positions, and the problem will likely get worse when millions of IT workers retire in the next eight years, he added.
The new association will offer "a multifaceted suite" of member benefits for IT professionals of all types, including career development, training and continuing education, according to CompTIA.
"Ultimately, it's not the things of IT, but the people in IT, that drive our industry's success," Thibodeaux said. "And our overarching priority in growing this new association will be to help IT professionals start or restart careers that can realize their ambitions and fulfill their dreams—as they continue to help contribute to our economic growth and security." http://prn.to/2ivJWnU
